The Bride is a story about Jamie, who goes to her model cousin, Blaine’s wedding to heir Preston only to learn that it might be haunted by the ghost of a bride who died of heartbreak. We also meet some interesting characters for the other bridesmaids including fellow models Allison (a former girlfriend of Pres and rival model to Blaine), Kelly (a fellow model), Stephanie (Preston’s sister), and Patricia (another former girlfriend of Preston who is also somehow related to him). There is also a love interest for Jamie named Drew.
I loved this story growing up and it still is a fun read today, barely 150 pages. The characters aren’t that multidimensional which from what I remember is pretty much par for the course for this time period for YA books. But I did enjoy the relationship between Blaine and Jamie who despite being pretty different are obviously very close, which is why Jamie is a bridesmaid at the wedding. Whenever you see Blaine and Patricia interact it's pretty obvious that the latter being a bridesmaid was Pres’s idea but why she was chosen is left up in the air in the story. I guess the author thought we needed a mean girl or rival for Preston’s affection, which doesn’t really work since the love triangle is very downplayed if not outright ignored.
The surprise at the end of the novel is pretty well done with the hints being pretty subtle though they are pretty nonexistent. All in all I still enjoyed the story and would probably read it again when I feel nostalgia for my childhood. And thats all I have to say about this book. See you in my next review. Also don’t forget that you can buy my books - Red and An Icy Road to a Warm Heart on Amazon.
