The Bare Witch Project by Celeste Hall Part 2

The Bare Witch Project Review Part 2

We are only fifty percent of the way through this book and our hero and heroine have spent maybe five minutes talking to each other. Am I supposed to be rooting for them to get together by the end of the book? I don’t know but I am not rooting for them to get together because he spends most of his time as a damned cat save for the nighttime where he cuddles with her while she sleeps. I forgot to mention that in the previous review. So that’s not great.

Anyways, let's get on with the review.

Heidi takes her friend home, at Morgan’s insistence, though once Morgan is inside and alone she admits it's creepy. Which makes me wonder why the hell she asked to go home and sent her friend on her way in the first place. They could have come back when her friend got off work to pack for a longer stay. Or better yet why didn’t she pack for a long stay the night before, before they left for Heidi’s. I just have so many questions.

She also thinks seeing Leo as a human was a sign of a psychotic break and NOW decides to go see Heidi’s counselor. Girl should have gone a long time ago. Welp, we will see how long that lasts.

That’s interesting since half the time you act like you aren’t afraid of them to begin with unless it’s convenient for the plot almost as if the author keeps forgetting Morgan is supposed to be afraid of them.

Is she still at her own house, the one that creeped her out after the recent incidents? Or is she back at her friend’s apartment, the one she packed for an extended stay. Since there is no mention of her leaving her house I am going to assume she stayed home and is expecting her friend to meet her there. At the house that creeps her out.

Okay, are you or are you not scared of cats woman?

Okay how do you know that and how do you know what death smells like? Did your parents die in front of you? What about your grandmother? Do people just know what death smells like without having been near a recently deceased body? Also, she just KNOWS this was the guy who had been leaving her gifts because he smells like decay. Again do people just automatically know what decay smells like? At least we know she is still at her house? And I am wondering why she didn’t go to her friend’s apartment since the house creeps her out so much. Oh yeah, he was doing all this because she “belongs to Craig”. He chases her for a bit before her naked cat shows up to save the day as a human. This is what convinces her that is he is the real deal. Seriously? Him showing up to save her is what does it? Anyways, at least she gets one hit on the guy though Leo lands the knockout punch.

Has anyone called the police yet? I know Leo told her to but it kinda goes from there to her drinking whiskey and them talking about this. Did Leo think she was a firm believer in magic when he ran into her open doorway or did he decide that after? Oh and he’s never been a familiar before, isn’t that convenient. The chapter ends with Heidi congratulating her friend on having a sex life to Morgan demanding her friend call the police. Which probably should have been done before the whiskey.

Of course Heidi is dismayed that the “hot” guy disappeared, along with the police but for different reasons. Seriously Heidi, your friend nearly died and you are upset about not being able to drool over the hot guy? Also, we aren’t even sixty percent of the way through the book and already the threat is taken out.

To be fair to Rachel you haven’t exactly been acting like you have a phobia of cats most of the time. Does the author not understand how phobias work or do I just not understand how they work?

Anyways, the cops leave and then Morgan needs to convince her friends to leave because she was fine staying the night by herself in the house that had previously creeped her out. Like dude why? Does the house creep you out or not? Also, has Morgan not considered that maybe her friends want to stay with her just to assure themselves she is safe?

Why does he just now decide to wrap a towel around him? I mean I get the previous time attacker and all but what about all the other times did he not think she would be uncomfortable having a naked man in her house? Firm believer in magic or not?

Yeah because if there is one thing an unstable, obsessed stalker is going to like it's knowing the woman he has “claimed” is with someone else. That is totally going to get him to stop threatening her or sending people after her. She says it won’t work because she can’t lie worth a damn. He suggests they date for real then. Because that’s what she needs after having her ex send someone after her, a new boyfriend right away!

Despite her telling him he can sleep in the guest room he wants to sleep with her in her bed claiming he didn’t do anything to her the previous times when he slept with her.. Dude you cuddled with her while she was asleep I would say that was doing something to her. Yeah, you didn’t kiss her or try to have sex with her but you still slept with her while naked. If you want her to believe you are trustworthy and a good guy, like you claim to be, sleep in the damn guest bedroom let her be the one to welcome you back into her bed without these stupid guilt trips.

She goes into the bathroom to change because she wants to be alone and is concerned about what their relationship is which leads to her crying from the stress. And instead of waiting for her to come out and give her a minute like she asked he comes into the bathroom. Jesus dude boundaries. This whole scene screams, “You don’t know what you want, I know what you want”.

Anyways, the next morning Heidi shows up to check on her and she seems surprised her friend would do this. Like dude you were nearly killed the night before of course they would check up on you. And at first Leo refuses to change back into cat form until Morgan promises to introduce him once he gets clothes and go on a date with him. What was that you said about being a good guy Leo? Pretty sure good guys don’t cause the object of their affections emotional distress and manipulation to get what they want.

Heidi and Morgan talk where it is revealed that they released the guy who had attacked her last night. Where Heidi asks Morgan to stay with her for a while, stating it would make her feel better. Leo transforms and they talk for a while before this happens.

Dude, she asked for time. Give her that like the good guy you claim to be.

For someone who claims to be a good guy you sure seem desperate to steamroll your way into her pants despite her telling you, repeatedly she doesn’t want that at the moment. Give her time. I swear this guy is starting to remind me of a guy I nearly dated long-distance who also tried to steamroll me into pushing our relationship too fast.

Dude she’s told you to give her space and give her time and you can’t even give her that what makes her think you will leave if she says so. She even asks him to promise he won’t kiss her again but he won’t do that. Like this is the guy we are supposed to be rooting for when the only good thing he has done is save her from a creep who views women as property.? I can’t even begin to see how we are supposed to root for him when he constantly steamrolls the heroine and her desires.

“I’m a good guy but I am going to ignore all your requests for space and manipulate you into letting me be near you at all times.”

One of the reasons he says he won’t promise not to kiss her again is because he has strong feelings for her because she grew on him. Dude this is the longest conversation you have had with her. You spent the first half of this book mainly in cat form. Wait till you talk about having strong feelings for her. He even says he loves her. Like dude come on you haven’t even known her a month, I doubt you have even known her a week and barely talked to each other ease up a bit.

He claims he thought there was something more between them last night, despite the fact that they had only had two conversations and says he was mistaken. That’s not an excuse to ignore boundaries. He disappears on her again and comes back with a car and clothes claiming she never asked him if he was homeless or not. Dude you could have told her you had your own clothes when she mentioned buying you some clothes so you wouldn’t be naked all the time. Also, you know this woman has been through hell and back over the past few days and you still cause her to freak out by showing up at her door without warning in a car she’s never seen before. Then you have the nerve to chastise her for not asking. You can offer up the information yourself.

But we find out Leo has two younger sisters and his parents were killed in a car crash. At least we know the sad parental back story of someone in this damn book. Oh yeah, then his sisters burn alive in a fire.

They spend the night at her house and the next morning Heidi and Rachel burst in on them in bed. Because apparently, neither of them have heard of knocking. Leo convinces Heidi to lie to her friends about their relationship, saying if they can fool them they can fool the ex. Because apparently telling them the truth, maybe not about him being a shifter, would be too much I guess. Seriously how hard would it be to say, “Hey guys this is Leo’s owner and we’ve been hanging out for a while and might consider dating.”

Also, he gets upset when she still has issues with him being close and kissing her, claiming it's because it won’t convince the ex. Which it won’t but also considering Leo has been ignoring her discomfort in favor of his own I’d say it was because it also hurts his ego.

So Rachel and Heidi approve of him, because of course they do. Can’t have them questioning the relationship with the romantic interest. And Heidi is once again horny and this time over her friend’s sex life. I guess there are only two modes for Heidi horny and concerned. No in-between. Once they leave they talk about talking to the ex with Leo stating he will be the dominant, possessive partner because that will work with him. Because that won’t piss him off even more.

Once again Leo kisses her but this time Morgan allows it and welcomes it. It would be nice if this sort of relationship was built over time give Morgan time to go from, “I need more time because of my trauma” to “I’m over my trauma and am ready to date again”. Actually, no it wouldn’t because this book is intolerable and I want it to be over with now. They go to the jail and Morgan confronts her ex, learning he didn’t send his old cell mate after her. So with that they leave and everyone is happy and they live ever after. Seriously they do, because the power of true love helped Morgan overcome all her phobias and fear of relationships. I guess Morgan won’t be needing that professional help after all.

So that's it an uninteresting review for an uninteresting book. Do not read.
