Tempest in the Tea Room is a regency mystery novel written by Libi Astraire. Unlike the other mystery series that I read where the main character is a civilian that helps the police solve crimes in this one, there aren’t really any MCs and while the police character is helped by civilians at points, he really does the majority of the investigating. The characters are all, for the most part, decent human beings and none of them made me want to punch them, save for one that wouldn’t shut up about how great his tea is and how popular the company is going to be.
Anyways, the book deals with a new doctor coming to town and numerous patients who fall ill. So the police have to find out if he is responsible or if someone else is. Of course, he is innocent and someone else is the culprit. It’s pretty easy to figure out who is really the one poisoning the patients.
While the book was enjoyable, it really wasn’t up my alley because it was a regency novel and the only reason I picked it up was because of the title. But the characters were a big plus in the novel’s favor since most of the previous books I have read I sort of wanted to punch the main characters because they were so insufferable. Anyways, my next book I am going to read and review is The Boss by Abigail Barnette AKA Jenny Trout.
