Review for Love's Prophecy by Brenda Dyer

Love’s Prophecy is the first book in a series centered around vampires protecting humans from demons and the prophecy that centers around them, their human lovers, and their children. Book 1 centers around the vampire Mel and the human Breena. Their meet-cute is at a bar where Breena and her band is playing and Mel is there with his friend Ace. Mel falls in love with Breena and her voice and offers to buy her a beer before walking her out to her truck where their make-out session is interrupted by demons. The following fight, where a female demon is intent on getting revenge for the death of her lover earlier in the story, leads Mel to take Breena back to the vampire headquarters with him so she can be safe from the female demon’s revenge. Over the next few days, the two leads begin to fall for each other more deeply as Mel and Ace hunt for the female demon.

The book is pretty fast-paced and the two leads are likable. Although some of the side characters aren’t likable despite being the saviors of the world. I suspect that will change with some character development in their own books. But the premise of the series is interesting since you rarely see vampires and demons fighting against each other. The fight and sex scenes are pretty good. And the interactions between Mel and Breena are sweet and they work well together. Although, there is the trope of can’t spit it out when it comes to telling Breena the truth about her being connected to the ancient vampire prophecy. Although, I disliked the fact that Mel went with the whole break her heart to save her trope, despite the fact that there was nothing to save her from at the time. But thankfully that ends quickly with Ace talking some sense into Mel. Another thing I disliked was the fact that love cured Mel of the issues he had when it came to his past relationship with his father. But other than that I considered it a good read.
